Timely warming of a country house will help to keep the heat inside, but if everything is done correctly, energy saving can be raised to a whole level.

Not so long ago, we examined a topic that told us how to arrange the heating of a country house correctly. But in view of the fact that not all of us can immediately install autonomous heating, or this is already impossible due to the complete arrangement of the house in which this type of heating was not previously provided, we offer you an alternative. By the way, such a system can be used by absolutely every person who spontaneously decided to spend winter time in the country or just wants to inexpensive to make a country house warm.

Today we will help you to qualitatively insulate the country house with your own hands, because you can save not only on materials and technology, but also on the work itself, by doing it yourself, you will save almost half the budget for such an event.

So, we deal with the topic sequentially and try to do everything right, because it is from our efforts that the heat inside the house will depend.

Warming of a country house: where to start

It is clear that the heating of a country house can be provided with expensive or inexpensive appliances and equipment, but even serious installations will not save you from the cold if the energy saving of the building is not debugged. Or you will have to constantly spend energy and provide yourself with truly “golden” heat.

So, we begin by eliminating the reasons for the cooling of the structure. The most basic actions are a set of simple works on the “organization of heat” in the house.

Insulation of windows or their replacement

Of course, replacing the windows with new ones that will not allow the cold and small drafts that so seriously affect the internal temperature is difficult financially, but it is possible if you prepared in advance for the winter cold. If the opportunity to install new windows in the country is not available, and the old ones have disappeared, you will have to move on to some mandatory measures.

First of all, we need to replace broken glasses, if any, with whole ones. You can even organize a double-glazed window by installing the glass on the sealant and pressing them with new glazing beads to the frame. When these works are completed, we exclude through slots in the frame and at the installation site of glasses as much as possible. For this, special sealants and putties are used. When all the cracks are closed, it is necessary to paint the frames.

In the next step, we check if there are drafts from under the window frames, and if they are, we eliminate them with sealing materials. In some cases, polyurethane foam and plaster with coloring will help. Further, you can use the old-fashioned method and just hammer the opening parts of the windows with foam rubber, cotton, wet paper and glue on top with special tape or paper.

Sealed windows are the key to high-quality energy saving at home, but only if other sources of cold are also hermetically sealed, for example, even entrance doors.

Door insulation in the country

The doors of a country house are not only the main barrier to unauthorized entry into the house, but also a “valve”, which should prevent cold from entering the house.

Doors can be pulled up, felt along the edges or with special rubber pasting, or the sheet itself can be insulated if, say, you have a metal door in your house.

Naturally, the metal door does an excellent job of organizing the security of the interior, but it is not an obstacle to the cold, especially with the onset of winter frosts. Such doors can be quite easily and efficiently insulated, while making them quite silent.

From the inside, 2-3 beams are installed on the door, across the door. You can fasten a wooden beam to the through bolts, leaving only smooth round hats outside. Further, the doors are sheathed with polystyrene foam, installing it in opposition between the beams, and covered with an OSB sheet, which we fasten with screws to wooden beams. The total thickness of the door of 4-6 cm will make it possible to maintain high-quality heat inside the house.

Warming of the country house outside

Of course, this process is no longer at a low price, like penny warming and equipping windows and doors, but if you can, you can start to warm up the whole building a little, which will give an excellent result.

Expanded polystyrene or mineral wool is considered a classic external insulation, but today you can find a dozen more worthy materials, but the cost is already more expensive. So, we choose at a cost and go to work.

It is important to comply with the technology, namely:

  • Create a high-quality crate - a frame for fixing the insulation from the outside;
  • Treat the walls with an antiseptic and lay the insulation material, fixing it on the frame or immediately on the wall (for example, polystyrene foam for “mushrooms”);
  • Protect the general layer of insulation and the walls of the house with steam insulation or wind insulation (depends on the chosen technology and insulation material);
  • Install the frame for exterior decoration and sew up the house, for example, siding;
  • When working with polystyrene foam, it will be necessary to perform external plastering of the finished wall, or to finish the walls in a more original way.

They say that the thicker the insulation layer, the better the heat will remain in the house, but we insist that you can warm the country house only if you strictly follow certain rules, and not just choose a thick insulation.

Insulation of the country house from the inside

How to insulate a country house, outside or inside? Here you choose only, because how many masters, so many opinions. The only thing we want to say initially, the inner lining of the premises will take a certain area, while the outer one will cost a little more.

Insulation of the walls of the country house from the inside can be done with inexpensive material, for example, mineral wool, which today is considered not only the most affordable, but also the most practical. Of course, you can choose special insulation boards that are offered on the market and can show a wide variety of characteristics, but the choice is yours. Today we consider mineral wool and save money.

Under the internal warming of a country house or even just some of its rooms, you will need to build a frame that can be made of wooden battens or a metal profile. Further, mineral wool will need to be installed in the frame, which is very simple, especially when the frame is prepared taking into account the width of the minvata roll.

After warming the walls in the country, you can proceed to the skin of the frame, not forgetting, of course, about vapor barrier. Here you can choose for yourself - OSB, which can be painted with stain and varnished or left for several years without finishing, or plasterboard on the walls of the cottage, on top of which you can glue wallpaper, lay layers of paint, ceramic tile, wood trim, lining and so on.

Insulation of the floor of a country house

Warming the floor in the country is an important point, because it is from the floor that the feet freeze, from which the whole body freezes. Therefore, the legs should always be warm, and this can only be ensured by a warm, well, or at least just a cold floor.

We recommend warming the floor in the country with high-density foam, which is placed on the floor screed with the installation of a special wooden frame for subsequent flooring. Having installed a bar of the required size on the floor, following the steps of the indentation according to the size of the foam boards, you can proceed to laying the insulation. Do not forget, the foam can be cut and cracked, but it is better to insert it very tightly between the wooden crate for floor insulation.

At the end of the process, we cover the floor with a board or OSB, adjust the dimensions and decide how it will suit the decorative finish of the floor.

Insulation of the roof of the country house

By warming the roof, we prevent the release of heat from the premises, because, as you know, warm air always rises. Thus, we can make an excellent barrier to the entry of cold into the premises of the structure. In short, with the help of warming we create a certain type of thermos, the heat in which should be kept perfectly.

The most important requirement for such a "thermos" is good ventilation.

The roof of the house is insulated in the attic or in the attic, if equipped, but since we try to start with simpler options, we suggest that you do not particularly spend money on finishing these rooms, but simply insulate the house from the inside, that is, put the insulation on itself ceiling. This work, like the previous ones described by us, can be combined with high-quality repairs, since insulation quite often intersects with drywall or wooden finishing materials, creating ideal surfaces for high-quality decoration.

So, here, too, it all starts with the framework. It can be a tree or a profile, it all depends on the requirements, possible costs and type of work. We suggest starting from a galvanized metal profile, which will need to be installed around the perimeter of each room (strictly according to the level), thereby forming guides for the crate. Next, we will need to strengthen the structure and make cross sections between which the insulation will fit (and on which, subsequently, it will be possible to install a plasterboard ceiling).

When the frame is completed, carefully lay mineral wool using eye and hand protection, and then proceed to the ceiling decoration, which will include vapor barrier and ceiling lining for the frame.

You can also use polystyrene to warm the ceiling in the country.

Do-it-yourself warming of a country house - Not the most difficult process, especially when everything is at your fingertips. Here everything, as in any repair and intermediate works, rests on finances. But there is a positive side, the insulation of the walls of a country house, ceiling and floor can be carried out independently, and this is where 40-60% of the total cost of such an event can be saved.
